How To Stimulate Your Lymphatic System

· ·

In our modern-day world, we are exposed to countless toxins. From the air we breathe, to our cars, and the food we eat, ensuring that we effectively detox these toxins is an integral part of maintaining a healthy body and mind.

Our lymphatic system is a network of tissues, vessels, and organs that work together to move lymph back into your circulatory system. Healthy lymphatic function plays a crucial role in helping our body detoxify properly. When our lymphatic system functions well, our immunity, digestion, focus, and mental well-being benefit significantly. Ayurveda has various tools and treatments to help assist our lymphatic system and detoxification process so you can feel and function at your best.

Abhyanga

Abhyanga is a form of Ayurvedic self-massage that offers a range of health benefits. One of these benefits includes assisting the body with detoxing and moving stagnant lymph. Abhyanga involves using warm oil to gently massage your whole body in downward strokes and circular movements on the joints and abdomen.

For Vata and Kapha, use warm sesame oil. Sesame oil is grounding and heating to counteract the cold effects of excess Vata and Kapha. For Pitta types, use coconut oil for your self-massage. Coconut oil is very cooling, so it won't aggravate Pitta or result in excess heat. Practice abhyanga for a minimum of fifteen minutes so the oil can absorb, then rinse off afterward in the shower.

Regular Movement

Moving our bodies is a powerful way to move stagnant lymph and help our body detox. Ensure that you are getting regular exercise and moving your body daily. Long walks, jumping on the trampoline, shaking, dancing, and yoga can be great ways to stimulate the lymphatic system. Roll out your Bennd mat and practice gentle somatic shaking before moving into yoga postures that assist in detoxification, like supine twists and forward folds.

Dry Brushing

Dry brushing is an exfoliating and lymphatic stimulating practice that is a wonderful way to enhance your health and well-being. To practice dry brushing, start at your feet and brush in small strokes upward toward your heart. Do this all over your body, brushing in circular motions on your chest. Follow dry brushing with a shower, then apply oil or lotion to your body to soothe and soothe your skin.

Herbs: Madder root

Herbs offer powerful healing support for our minds and bodies. Traditional Ayurvedic herbs like madder root have powerful detoxifying properties and are fantastic to take for lymph support. Our Madder Root and Sappanwood yoga mat can help purify the blood, detox the lymphatic system, and calm inflammation. This mat is dyed with madder root in the center and the hand grip lines. In addition, it's infused with our proprietary blend of traditional Ayurvedic herbs, it's the perfect mat to support the health of your mind and body.

We mustn't overlook our lymphatic system when it comes to our wellness practices. There are many simple ways we can assist our body in its detoxification process to benefit our overall health and well-being.
